LAST OF SEPTEMBER...

IMG_1420

When I think of September.... I always think of APPLES!!! :) So, when the last day of Septmeber came so quickly & I had not made any Apple Crisp yet I decided we needed to take the kids to the orchard!! :)

We went to Ecker't Orchards in Belleville, IL. There is just something amazing about going out and picking your own apples! :) The kids searched through the many rows of trees to find just the perfect little apple. They examined them closely & searched for "soft" spots. They took great care into this job they had been given. For these apples were to make the perfect Apple Crisp!!

The weather in September is a perfect combination of sun & coolness that makes being outdoors with your children a great memory! Noone is cranky because of the heat! There are so many great memories to be had by taking your children on their own adventure in a garden of apples!

My children enjoyed some Apple Cider & examing all of the pumpkins (October's adventure)! :)

I know September has past but Fall is still a great time of the year to pick apples. in fact, Fuji apples are my persoanl favorite & they are just now ready in October! So, what are you waiting for? GET BUSY....and get to an orchard!!!!! :)

P.S. I have also included my famous APPLE CRISP recipe for you to try with your family...the recipe is fun for kids to help with too because it is best mixed with your hands!!!!

APPLE CRISP

Apples to cover the bottom of 9x13" pan
1C. brown sugar
1C. white sugar
1 1/2C. butter (yes 3 sticks-but you can use Light Blue Bonnet & still tastes good)
2 C. quick oats
1C. flour
Salt & Cinnamon

Slice apples and layer in the bottom of pan. Mix remaining ingredients with your hands until crumbly. (It is best to pinch butter off into pieces befor mixing)Sprinkle on top of apples until fully covered. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 mins.
